Congratulations! Helena Luu got "The Merle and Helen Converse Endowed Scholarship" Award.

Our undergraduate (junior) researcher, Ms. Helena Luu, has been selected as a scholarship awardee for the "The Merle and Helen Converse Endowed Scholarship.” The Merle and Helen Converse Endowed Scholarship was established in 2017 by Merle and Helen Converse to support deserving students in applied physics and electrical engineering. As a student at Kansas State University, Merle remembers the challenges of going to school and working. He and his wife want to give students the best opportunity to achieve academic success through scholarship support. Merle and Helen moved from Eskridge, Kansas to San Antonio in 1959 and Merle reported for active duty in the United States Air Force. After his service ended, Merle was employed at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in 1962. He retired as an Assistant Department Director in 2005, and has continued employment as a Technical Advisor in the Division of Applied Physics through the present time, totaling 55 years at SwRI. The picture is taken in the UTSA UC Denman Room at the scholarship ceremony, where Helena (center) is with the Dean of College of Science (left) and another scholarship awardee from physics department (right).
